A Rite of Passage (To Nursing)

We just had our demos on intradermal (ID) and intramuscular (IM) injections in our NCM 100A (R.L.E). We were not actually informed that we will be having the demos today that's why we were really surprised! I was, of course, nervous and what's really scary is that, we had to choose a partner and inject each other! It's like the blind leading another blind!

I chose Ryza to be my partner. By the way, Ryza is part of a trio which we call the "Tres Marias" or sometimes the "Tres Mujeres". While waiting for our turn, my hands were starting to feel cold as ice. We first had the intradermal injection by performing a skin test. We made use of sterile water instead of a real drug. For those who are not aware, skin test is really painful! Luckily, I have high tolerance to pain. Don't you know that I'm "Painkiller Jane"? I did well on this demo since I managed to make a good wheal on my partner's forearm. But my partner didn't, since some of the sterile water scattered in the tissues inside my skin.

While waiting for our turn for the demo on IM injection, I was observing the reactions of my classmates and most of them were in pain. Some even cried. And then, it was our turn to perform IM injection in the upper arm. I won't tell much about this because I kinda suck! Thanks to the clinical instructor who was rushing us while we were having the demo! At least, this time my partner did well. Again, I didn't feel much pain, probably because I already experienced IM when I had my Hepatitis B vaccine last summer.

Honestly, I was more scared in administering injections than receiving them, because I fear that I might injure my partner. But even though I suck with the IM injection, I'll make sure that I'll do better next time, because next time I'll already be doing it with an actual patient!

This whole activity is like a rite of passage, especially to those who felt so much pain. I'm actually starting to feel like a real Nursing student! Through this activity, we experienced what it feels like to be a patient who receives injections. We all know that a lot of people are afraid of injections, and now, it is easier for us to deal with such patients. I really learned a lot from this scary and exciting activity, and it made me think that learning is not only about knowing, but it's also about experiencing!

Formerly Retired Forumer

The "forumer" in me is back!

The College of Nursing now has an online forum board, and two weeks ago, I was asked by our Nursing Student Body Organization (NSBO) Chairman to participate in it, since it would be better if the officers will also join.

I just joined and before I registered I was a bit hesitant, since I was thinking of hiding my identity because I don't want to receive any hate mails, in case there are some people who hate me.

This "forum thing" reminded me of the UP-Baguio iblobby forum and the Animax East Asia Forum. And so, I visited the Animax East Asia Forum, according to the site, the last time I visited was on 01 Mar 2007 05:17 pm. Haha! But I don't have any plans of becoming an active member again.

Dying Daisies!?

Oh my! The show "Pushing Daisies" is in danger of being canceled! Or maybe it has already been canceled!!! Oh no! I haven't even watched the first and last episodes of the first season!

Here's the article (from Yahoo! TV) about the sad news:

Pushing Daisies

The quirky, critically-acclaimed drama "Pushing Daisies," about a pie maker who can revive the dead just can’t seem to catch a break. Its first season was interrupted by the writers’ strike and now its second season’s ratings have been falling weekly (with viewership well below that of last year’s). Sure fans love it and want desperately to save it, but unless all the brouhaha turns into viewers, Ned the pie maker will find himself trying to bring the show back to life. English Trailer for "Love Me If You Dare (Jeux d'enfants)"

This is such a WONDERFUL MOVIE that's why I highly recommend you to watch it!

I somewhat coerced my friend, Shantinn, to watch it!  Haha!  And here is her reaction right after watching the movie: "I'm speechless..  In a good way.."

What's really amusing is that, while Shantinn was watching the movie, she kept on "texting" me her reactions on the interesting events in the movie.  She was like a courtside reporter during a basketball game!  Haha!  Well, I just wonder what made her "speechless" after watching the movie...  Hmmm?

If you find this movie interesting, I guess it won't be hard for you to download it from your favorite websites or downloading softwares.

You can also watch it on YouTube: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HMJhzRqQ-2k"

My last words for this entry:

"WATCH THE MOVIE IF YOU DARE!" (^,..,^)

Love Me If You Dare (Jeux d'enfants)

Love Me If You Dare

“Love Me If You Dare” (Original Title: “Jeux d’enfants”) is a French movie directed by Yann Samuel (“My Sassy Girl” - US).

Synopsis:

As adults, best friends Julien (Guillaume Canet) and Sophie (Marion Cotillard, “La Vie en Rose”) continue the odd game they started as children -- a fearless competition to outdo one another with daring and outrageous stunts. While they often act out to relieve one another's pain, their game might be a way to avoid the fact that they are truly meant for one another.

Before I go back to "Term Paper Mode", I would like to leave a quote that's been running through my head for (I think) several months. I'm not even sure if it's considered a poem or something but I have a title for it.

Lonely/Happy

"Am I a lonely person pretending to be happy?
Or am I a happy person pretending to be lonely?"

- poetaster_kari

Don't worry! I'm not suffering from depression, just like someone I know. ;P
